Galloway Church

Galloway Church is a member congregation of the Global Methodist Church.

We are committed to living and proclaiming the biblical, apostolic, orthodox, and ecumenical faith of the Church established by Christ.

We share in the distinct legacy of faith handed down through the Methodist family. This is:

  • Faith founded on the Bible
  • Faith that trusts in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin and salvation from death and hell
  • Faith that is experienced in a personal relationship with God
  • Faith that is brought to life and sustained through the work of the Holy Spirit
  • Faith that surrenders to the will of God that we be made new
  • Faith that loves God above all with an all consuming love and…
  • Faith that has an undying hope in eternal life through Jesus Christ

We Believe

We believe God is the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. This is called the Trinity.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” Matt 28:19 NIV

God, the Father: “…for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live…” I Cor 8:6a NIV

God, the Son: “… there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. 1 Cor 8:6b NIV
“The Son is the image of the invisible God… For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things.” Col 1:15-20 NIV
God, the Holy Spirit: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Rom 8:14 NIV

Salvation through Jesus Christ
Men and women are created by God in His image and all are loved by God. But all people turn away from God in sin. Sin separates us from God and therefore all of us need God’s forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV

The Bible is the Word of God
The Bible is God’s Word to us. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without error.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteoxusness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV

The Power of Prayer
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 NIV

Marriage and Sexuality

Given the intensive cultural debate and conflict over the definition of marriage and sexuality, we believe that it is essential that we seek to make a clear statement of our belief and practice regarding these concerns.

1. We believe that the term “marriage” has only one legitimate meaning, and that is marriage sanctioned by God, which joins one man and one woman in a single, covenantal union as delineated by Scripture. Marriage ceremonies performed in any facility or space owned, leased, or rented by this church will be only those ceremonies sanctioned by God, joining one man with one woman as their genders were determined by anatomy at birth (and not subject to change). None of our staff or members may officiate any marriage ceremony that does not conform to the above definition of marriage in any context. Whenever there is a conflict between the church’s position and any new legal standard for marriage, the church’s statement of faith, doctrines, and biblical positions will govern. (Gen. 2:24; Eph. 5:22-23; Mark 10:6-9; I Cor. 7:1-9)

2. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage as defined in (1) above. We believe that any other type of sexual activity, identity, or expression that lies outside of this definition of marriage, are contradictory to God’s natural design and purpose for sexual activity. (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1: 26-29; 1 Cor. 5:1; 6:9-10; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4)

3. We believe that God creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, unchangeable genders identified by their anatomy at birth, together reflect the image and nature of God, and the rejection of one’s biological gender is a rejection of the image of God within that person and is destructive to God’s plan and design for humankind. (Genesis 1:26-27)

4. We affirm that all persons are individuals of sacred worth, created in the image of God. Although we do not condone the practice of homosexuality, premarital sex and adultery and consider these practices incompatible with Christian teaching and Scripture, we do affirm that God’s grace is available to all. We invite all persons to participate in worship, sacraments, small groups, and other ministries. We desire to be a community in which all persons will find honest compassion, warmth, and love that would provide them with a safe place to seek God, to wrestle with sin, and to find caring support to apply biblical instruction in their lives. (Galatians 6:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:24-25)

Sanctity of Life

1. We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion is sin and constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. (Job 3:16; Ps. 51:5; 139:13-16; Isa. 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jer. 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:36, 44)

2. We believe that an intentional act or omission that facilitates premature death, is assuming a decision that is to be reserved for God. However, we do not believe that discontinuing medical procedures that are extraordinary or disproportionate to the expected outcome is euthanasia. (Ex. 20:13; 23:7; Matt. 5:21; Acts 17:28)

3. Protection of Children. We believe that children are a blessing from the Lord and must be absolutely protected within the church from any form of abuse or molestation. The church has zero tolerance for any person, whether paid staff, volunteer, member, or visitor, who abuses or molests a child. (Ps. 127:3-5; Matt. 18:6, 19:14; Mark 10:14)
